Using a Drive on a Corner Grounded Delta Power System
Topic Description

A corner grounded delta power system is a configuration where one of the phases (typically B phase) is solidly grounded. This system exists to keep voltages stable, limit or reduce surges, and/or be required in compliance with electrical code. There are certain restrictions when using a VFD on a corner grounded delta power system.

A corner grounded delta power system may also be known as the following:

  • Grounded leg service
  • Grounded B phase delta
Resolution

Yaskawa's VFDs are compatible with corner grounded delta systems without an additional derate. The following are required to prevent damage to the VFD or external components:

  • Line-to-line voltages must be well balanced when loaded and unloaded.
  • An EMC filter must be removed or disabled.
    • Eliminate an external EMC filter from the main circuitry.
    • Disable an internal EMC filter (applies to GA500, HV600, and Z1000 drives).
