Both explicit messaging and implicit messaging can be used on Yaskawa drives when using Ethernet IP communications. It is important to know when one method should be used over the other.

Note: Not all 1000 series and 7 series drives are capable of Ethernet IP communications.

Whether explicit messaging or implicit messaging should be used depends on the PLC or controller.

Explicit Messaging - A type of messaging format that the user will poll as information is needed.

• Example: Explicit messaging is information using a class, instance and attribute and the message is polled whenever it is needed. (Refer to Using Explicit Messaging for EtherNet/IP)

Implicit Messaging - A type of messaging format that is constantly sending information on a time interval, often referred to as polled messaging, meaning it is constantly sending information on a time interval. Which method can be used will depend on the PLC or controller since the drive can do both.
