CPF00, CPF01, Contactors Chattering, No Display on the Keypad, or the Keypad is Turning On and Off Intermittently on a Z1000 Bypass, P1000 Bypass, or Z1000U Bypass Unit
Topic Description

Under certain circumstances, one or more of the following issues may be present on a Z1000 Bypass, P1000 Bypass, or Z1000U Bypass unit.

  • A CPF00 fault which indicates a failure to establish communication between the digital operator (keypad) and bypass control board (A2).
  • A CPF01 fault which indicates a failure to establish communication between the digital operator (keypad) and bypass control board (A2) for 2 seconds or more.
  • The contactor(s) (K1, K2, or K3) are chattering or appear to be rapidly energizing and then de-energizing.
  • The keypad (digital operator) is turning on and off intermittently or powering up.

The bypass control board (A2), power supply (PS1), power supply harness, digital operator (keypad), and/or RJ45 cable are all parts related to the above issues.

Resolution

The following troubleshooting steps should be followed in order to effectively diagnose contactors chattering or the keypad intermittently turning on and off:

Related parts: Power Supply (PS1) and Power Supply Harness.

  1. With the power on, verify the input power is within specification at +/- 10% of the cabinet rated voltage.
    • If input voltages are within specifications proceed to the next step.
  2. Turn off power to the cabinet for at least 0.4 seconds then re-seat the power supply harness labeled CN4 (4 blue wires) on the bypass board. Reapply power to the drive.
    • If the fault cleared and the display is on, the problem may have been caused by a loose connections at CN4 or a faulty power supply harness. Replace the harness.
    • If the fault did not clear or the display is off proceed to the next step.
  3. Turn off power to the cabinet then disconnect the power supply (PS1) wire harness at CON2. Apply power to the cabinet and the read voltage between pins 1 to 4
    • If the voltage is less than 4.75vDC, replace the power supply harness and the power supply (PS1).
    • If the voltage is greater than 4.75vDC, proceed to testing the bypass board (A2) and the digital operator (keypad).

The following troubleshooting steps should be followed in order to effectively diagnose CPF00 fault, CPF01 faults or no display on the keypad:
Related parts: Bypass Control Board (AS2) and Digital Operator (Keypad).

  1. Turn off power to the cabinet for at least 0.4 seconds then disconnect and re-seat the RJ45 cable at connector CN2 on bypass board (A2). Reapply power to the cabinet.
    • If the fault cleared and the digital operator (keypad) display is on, it may have been caused by a loose connection, faulty RJ45 cable or faulty bypass board (A2)
    • If the fault did not clear or the digital operator (keypad) display remains off, proceed to the next step.
  2. Turn off power to the cabinet for at least 0.4 seconds then remove and re-seat the RJ45 cable at the digital operator (keypad). Reapply power to the cabinet.
    • If the fault cleared and the digital operator (keypad) display is on, it may have been caused by a loose connection, faulty RJ45 cable or faulty digital operator (keypad).
    • If the fault did not clear or the digital operator (keypad) display remains off, proceed to the next step.
  3. Turn off power to the cabinet for at least 0.4 seconds then remove the digital operator (keypad) from the RJ45 cable at CN2 of the bypass control board (A2) and reconnect it directly to the Z1000 Drive at connector CN2-2. Reapply power to the cabinet.
    • If the fault cleared and the digital operator (keypad) display is on, it may have been caused by a faulty RJ45 cable or faulty bypass board (A2).
  4. Remove the digital operator (keypad) from the drive at CN2-2 and reconnect it to the RJ45 cable at CN2 of the bypass control board (A2).
