Topic Description

Under certain circumstances, it may be necessary to flash a stand-alone drive with the latest firmware. Depending on the model, one of the following software programs needs to be used:

  • DriveWizard Industrial
  • DriveWizard HVAC
  • DriveWizard iQpump

Note: DriveWizard software is available at Yaskawa.com by request. Refer to the Related Documents section below for more details.

Resolution

Follow the steps below to flash a stand-alone drive with the latest firmware:

  1. Remove power to the drive and wait for the Charge LED to turn off.
  2. Connect the flash cable to the PC and the drive. Remove the keypad (digital operator) to insert the flash cable into the drive operator port.
  3. Apply power to the drive.
  4. Open DriveWizard and click Maintenance.

  5. Click "Flash Write Tool".

  6. Select the appropiate drive Series.

  7. Verify the Communication Port is the same as what appears in Device Manager when connected to the drive.

  8. Click "Open" to select the flash file and then click "Flash" to start the flash process.

    • Note: GA Series drives use .YFLASH files, 1000 Series drives use .MOT files, and 7 Series drives use .DAT files.
  9. When flash procedure is completes, remove power to the drive and wait for the Charge LED to turn off.
  10. Disconnect the flash cable.*
  11. Re-insert the keypad (digital operator) and apply power to the drive.
  12. Verify the firmware revision by checking the Monitor U1-25 (GA Series and 1000 Series) or U1-14 (7 Series).

Important Notes:

  • It is not necessary to first connect to the drive before starting the flashing process.
  • Do not power down the drive while the flashing is in progress.
  • If communication is lost during the flash process, use the Standard Recovery Mode option located under File -> Properties in the Flash Write Tool and try again.
  • If the drive no longer boots up, use the Boot Recovery Mode with the appropriate cable and DIP switch settings.
  • * If using the USB cable to flash on the GA500, GA800, HV600, FP605 drives, the cable MUST be removed to cycle power to the board. With the cable plugged in, it still powers up the control board.
