The Electronic Line Shaft (ELS) function allows a secondary (follower) drive to precisely follow the speed, direction, and position of a primary (master) drive. This functionality is made possible by sending encoder signals from the master to the follower, and can very accurately match speed and position. The Electronic Line Shaft (ELS) function for GA800 and A1000 drives requires the following:
- A minimum of 2 drives (GA800 and/or A1000 drives)
-
ELS firmware flashed on the secondary (follower / slave) drive ONLY.
- One PG-X3, PG-B3 or PG-F3 encoder option card installed on the primary (master) drive.
-
Slot B can use PG-X3 or PG-B3 and on Slot C can use a PG-X3, PG-B3 or PG-F3* encoder option cards installed on the secondary (follower) drive(s).
* Note: PG-F3 option card support for the master drive encoder is limited to EnDat 2.1/01, EnDat 2.2/01, and HIPERFACE encoders. EnDat 2.2/22 Encoders (F1-50 = 1) do not support pulse monitor signal outputs and cannot be used in this application.

GA800 Drives
- The user can download firmware file VSAA10020 (partner login) from Yaskawa.com then flash it into a standard drive.
A1000 Drives
- The drive can be ordered with the model number ending in "-064".
-
Note: The "-064" includes the ELS firmware pre-installed in the drive. The PG-X3 encoder option card(s) will need to be ordered separately.
- The drive can be ordered with the model number ending in "-065".
-
Note: The "-065" includes the ELS firmware and two PG-X3 encoder option cards.
- The ELS firmware can be flashed into a standard drive by an authorized service provider or distributor. Refer to the Where to Buy section on Yaskawa.com.
-
Note: The PG-X3 encoder option cards will need to be ordered separately.
- The user can download firmware file VSA910031 (partner login) from Yaskawa.com then flash it into a standard drive.
